"dëbut" by dantë

  • 02/02/2020
  • Post-Pop
  • 70 minutes
  • from 0 €*

Written, performed, recorded and mixed by dantë with support from a merry band of bandits, the divine comedians!

Post-pop, as dantë describes it, is popular music in a time when musical styles are blending more and more and genres mean less and less.

The music of dantë is a complex yet catchy mix of traditional and modern sounds, blending the folk grooves of his latino roots, a harmonic and  melodic richness reminding of musicals, jazz and classical music and the energetic beats and basslines of electronica and hip hop with the soaring guitars and wayward songwriting of progressive rock and metal.

In his lyrics dantë tells stories that speak of the human experience in this crazy world, part dark, part ecstatic, filled with poetic imagery and driven by a vision of a better today. dantë is openly gay and a strong advocate of civil rights issues.

All songs are original compositions – except for The Tree of Oblivion (a tribute to Víctor Jara who also covered this song, originally written by Alberto Ginastera & Fernán Silva Valdés). The lyrics of Prometheus are dantë's translation of his favourite poem by Goethe.

01. Elysian Fields

Oh, Elysian Fields, where are you to find?
There‘s nothing in this world of your kind.
The bitter truth, it lies before
My weary feet, you fucking whore!

I‘m going ‘round in circles.
Why are you who you are?
I‘m going ‘round in circles,
So I‘ll never get too far.
You're going on without me.
Why am I who I am?
You're driving me so crazy
But you don't give a damn.
Now, have you done what everyone never told you?
Are you finally free to see?

Hey, world, what have you got
For me? ‘Cause you know what:
I‘m sick and tired of being all alone
And waiting for you by the telephone.
Fuck it all! I don‘t need this shit.
I‘m out of here, I‘m not a fool or kid.
You know I‘m tired of pitying myself,
‘Cause it only keeps me on the shelf.

I‘ll burn the bridge behind me
So there‘s no more going back.
I‘m through with this insanity
Of a world that won‘t come back.
Far too long you‘ve played my sad strings.
I‘ve replaced them with a merrier instrument.
For no more fighting, no more crying, no more lying
That led to no good end.
So, have you found what you never could find in me?
Are you finally glad with your life?

Hey, world, what have you got
For me? ‘Cause you know what:
I‘m sick and tired of being all alone
And waiting for you by the telephone.
Fuck it all! I don‘t need this shit.
I‘m out of here, I‘m not a fool or kid.
You know I‘m tired of pitying myself,
‘Cause it only keeps me on the shelf.

Oh, Elysian Fields, where are you to find?
There‘s nothing in this world of your kind.

02. Sterbender Mond

Oh, Sonne!
Halte inne, bleibe stehen!
Hab Erbarmen!

Du, mein Herz, geh weit fort.
Geh an einen besseren Ort.
Dreh dich nicht um, sieh nicht zurück.
Geh und find dein eigenes Glück.
Was mich betrifft, ich bleibe hier,

04. Your Curse

Nothing just seems the way it ought to be.
Everything fades, just silence in perfect harmony.
Til something in me changes the key of our melody.
And, oh, my mind strangles to find something inside
To bring it back to life.

There it is, the fire, the flame that forged
The sword, the blade that broke.
Now nothing will ever be
The same as was before.

Cupid's tricks don't do any good for me.
It burns and it kicks and it screams and it makes me bleed.
Don't let it stay, take it away, let me be free.
There are no words that could be worse than this, your curse
Which leaves me in the dark.

There it is, the fire, the flame that forged
The blade that broke.
Now nothing will ever be
The same as was before.

05. The Tree of Oblivion

In my home there is a tree
By the name of oblivion
Where they go to take heart
Life of mine
Those whose souls weigh like stones

So I lay my weary head
Under the tree of oblivion
Just to try to forget you
Life of mine
And I slept well through the night.

After waking from my dreams
I thought of you yet again.
Well, I forgot to forget you.
Life of mine
When I lay me to sleep.

06. Alarm!

Laut schallt es in uns're Richtung,
Heiß schlägt es uns ins Gesicht -
Niemand kommt davon!, oh, niemand kommt davon!

Schlagt Alarm!, Arm in Arm -

Niemand kommt davon!, oh, niemand kommt davon!

Schlagt Alarm!, Arm in Arm -

Jeder Schritt dahin
Und jedes Wort, das ich sing,
Jede Tat in meiner Daseinsfrist

Also sieh mich an und sag's mir in's Gesicht,

08. (Forget That) You’re Gone

Mary Jane is waiting for
Tom has one more drink before
Alex goes home.
Anne is fighting with Nicole,
Jack is making out with Paul,
Somebody snores.
3 A.M. and one more drink,
Watch the boys comparing ink,
I will be fine.

When the music takes me away,
Crawls up my skin, leads me to sin.
When the drugs set fire to my brain,
Tear down the walls, light up the halls.
When for just one night I forget that you're gone.

I remember when you left
Me one day, I was bereft,
I was undone.
You were everything to me
Though I always failed to see
How hurt you are.
I was always focused on
Something else, I was withdrawn,
You felt alone.

When the music took me away,
Crawled up my skin, led me to sin.
When the drugs set fire to my brain,
Tore down the walls, lit up the halls.
I did not miss you and forgot that you're gone.

After the night came the dawn, I stepped into the morning.
I opened my eyes and I found what I’ve always been searching,
What I’ve always been searching for.

When he comes and takes me away,
Kisses my skin, leads me to sin.
When his breath sets fire to my brain,
Tears down my walls, lights up the halls.
I’m whole again, I forgot that you're gone.

09. Eurydike

Wo willst du hin?
Es naht das Morgenrot.
Sieh nicht hin.
Die Nacht bringt nur den Tod.

Des Mondes Zauberkraft
zieht dich zu seinem Licht.
Die Sehnsucht Schmerz nur schafft.
Erlösung find’st du nicht.

O grausamer Stern,
raubst Freude mir.
O schrecklicher Stern,
schenkst Trauer mir.

Wo willst du hin?
Es naht das Morgenrot.
Sieh nicht hin.
Die Nacht bringt nur den Tod.

10. When Night Falls

When night falls we awake and hark to the call –
In the dark it awaits with tales of the moon and stars
When the heart and the dream kiss and unite
where the bold and obscene sing and the queer don't hide.

There's a place where everything
seems more glistening and glimmering,
Where the people seem entranced
by the truth at which they'd glanced.

I step into the black and walk with the living,
with the drunk and the mad, chasing the beast within.
I paint the windows red and howl at the moon –
And the voice calls me yet as it may soon call you.

You and I in this place, face to face, eye to eye.
So sweet the sound of your voice and the noise all around
And I feel it’s real.

There's a place where everything
seems more glistening and glimmering,
Where the people seem entranced
by the truth at which they'd glanced,
Where the rules that we obey
seem to change, where the horrors fade,
Where the shadows whisper low
to the lights we follow.

11. Ode to You

Take a breath.
Make a step.
Try to clear my head.
Take a drag.
Make up my mind.
Then there you are. (This one‘s for you)

Time stands still.
Just for one second
Nothing seems to matter.
I look at you.
You turn your head.
Call my name and smile.

Soothing, assuaging
You are to me.
Peaceful and easeful
I have become.

The truth is I don‘t really know what to say
Or how to speak, how to breathe, how to move.
I don‘t really know anything at all
Anymore.

When you hold me, kiss me -
I feel complete.
To have held you, oh, and kissed you
Is more than I could ever ask for.

Don‘t get me wrong,
I know it‘s not the same for you
But just let me say that it‘s ok.
It‘s ok … for me.

I just want you to know,
I don‘t want you to say anything in return,
I just want you to be my friend -
Nothing more, nothing less.

Truly, sincerely
I have to say
That I am grateful to have you
Even if it hurts.

Take my hand.
I speak with honesty.
Nothing‘s changed,
Look at you, look at me,
We‘re still the same so don‘t worry.
I‘ll be fine, I‘ll be true,
I‘ll be always here for you.
Well, so we remain -
It‘s ok, I‘ve learned to forget
And I‘ve learned to go on
And I‘ve learned to be strong.
So, please just sit here next to me
And shut your mouth
Cause I am ok … I‘ll be ok.

12. Thanatos

Es gibt nichts, was uns hier hält.

Komm, ich zeig dir Wunder, zeig dir alles, was dir gefällt.

Es gibt nichts, was uns hier hält.

13. Prometheus

Cover your heaven, Zeus,
With foggy clouds,
And practice, like a boy
Who beheads thistles,
On oak-trees and mountain-tops;
You still must leave
My earth to me,
And my hut, which you did not build,
And my hearth,
Whose glow
You envy me.

I know of nothing poorer
Under the sun, than you, Gods!
You barely nourish by
Sacrificial offerings
And exhalated prayers
Your Majesty,
And would wither were not
Children and beggars
Hopeful fools.

When I was a child,
And did not know where from or to,
I turned my seeking eye
Toward the sun, as if beyond
There was an ear
To hear my complaint,
A heart like mine,
To have mercy on
The embattled one.

Who helped me against the Titans' mischief?
Who delivered me from death, from slavery?
Did you not accomplish it all yourself,
Holy burning Heart?
And glowed, young and good, deceived -
Thanks for salvation to the
Sleeping one above?
I should honour you? For what?
Have you softened the pains, ever,
Of a burdened one?
Have you silenced the tears, ever,
Of an anguished one?
Was I not forged into a Man
By almighty Time
And eternal Fate,
My masters and yours?

Do you imagine I should hate life,
Flee to the desert,‘cause not every
Boy-morning-blossom-dream has bloomed?

Here I sit, forming people in my
Image; a race, to be like me,
To suffer, to weep, to enjoy and
Delight themselves, and to mock you –
As I do.
